The Kruger Lowveld is a region that combines some of Mpumalanga’s and indeed South Africa’s greatest attractions.  The north-eastern part of the Kruger Lowveld, also known as Panorama, has the most breathtaking views.

The Great Escarpment of South Africa looms over vast canyons that form the Lowveld, their peaks, some 3 000m, bear names such as “God’s Window’ and ‘Devils Knuckles’. Some of the largest man-made forests in the world cover much of the area, most notably at Sabie and Graskop.

Scenic routes take the visitor to Long Tom Pass, the Motlatse Canyon (previously the Blyde River Canyon), Bulembu Pass, Abel Erasmus Pass, caves, cliffs, gorges, waterfalls and other splendid natural surroundings. Further south, takes the visitor into the heart of the Lowveld.

Almost the entire winter vegetable supply to South Africa has this region as its source. And then there is the Kruger National Park, one of the worlds most important game sanctuaries.  Here, the ‘big five’ roam in true African style. The lowveld also boasts many other world famous game reserves, like Mala Mala and Londolozi.

South of the Kruger National Park is a cradle of life with archaeological discoveries dating back more than three billion years.

The Lowveld is home to the seat of the provincial administration in Nelspruit, White River and the township KaNyamazane. In the Mpumalanga Kruger Lowveld you will find the oldest dolomite caves in the world, the famous Sudwala Caves and the Lowveld National Botanical Garden with an enormous collection of cycads and an African rainforest.  The quaint village of Kaapsehoop and its wild horses; and the mesmerising butterfly garden in the White River area.

This region offers the visitor so many attractions and activities, that one would have to return several times in order to do it all!
